Fire Officials Dedicate New $4M Boat

The $4 million rescue boat will replace a 39-year-old boat and will be staffed around the clock.

City and fire officials dedicated the Boston Fire Department's new 70’ high speed aluminum fire boat in the Charlestown Navy Yard on Thursday.

This boat was built over the past year in Kingston, Ontario by MetalCraft Marine at a cost of $4.2 million to replace a 39-year-old fire boat. This boat was named the John S. Damrell after the late chief of department.

The boat has a dive platform, a draft of only 3 feet and can pump 13,000 gallons of water per minute. It also has the very latest in marine electronics and will be staffed around the clock.
