Five Things to Know Today, Dec. 13
Deadline for Annual Appeal mention; the reverend is in; keeping the roads safe; a new fire chief; and another sunny but chilly day.
1. Wednesday at 5 p.m is the deadline to get your name printed on the Winter Dance invitation for giving to the Annual Appeal by buying a ticket or hosting a dinner table. Of course, those wishing to go to the dance or host are welcome to buy tickets and sign up until Jan. 28, the day of the dance. To do either, contact the Beacon Hill Civic Association at 617-227-1922.
2. The holidays can be a tough time for many people. We've enlisted Rev. Dr. Don Wells, Theologian-in-Residence at Old South Church, to answer some of your questions next week. The Reverend will be checking the site often on Monday to Wednesday, and answering the questions you leave in the comments section of an article that will post Monday morning. Don't be shy! He's assured us that he's ready to tackle your questions.
3. State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Suffolk County on Thurs, Dec. 15 into Fri, Dec. 16. The purpose is to further educate and strengthen public’s awareness of detecting and removing those who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
4. There's a new fire chief in Boston: Dec. 9 Steven Abraira was sworn in as the head of the city's fire service. According to BNN, he is the first person of Hispanic heritage to hold the position and the first person from outside the department to do so. The Kansas native comes to Boston from Dallas, according to CBS Boston, where he headed that city's fire department.
5. Another sunny, chilly day with a high near 47. It will drop to about 31 at night.
