Five Things to Know Today, Dec. 6
The Beacon Hill Civic Association is seeking the neighborhood's help; the Esplanade Association gets $1 million; share a shopping tip for $25; College Night at the Frog Pond; and rain today.
1. The Beacon Hill Civic Association is asking for the neighborhood's support. "For 89 years, it has been the very generous support of our neighborhood that enables the BHCA to sustain its efforts to preserve and enhance the quality of life on Beacon Hill. Now heading into its 90th anniversary, letters have been mailed, emails sent and phone calls made asking members to once again contribute to the Annual Appeal, which traditionally covers half of our yearly budget," its website states. 2. The Esplanade Association announced Monday that it received a $1 million private donation "to help revitalize and re-landscape the Eliot Memorial area on the Esplanade as well as aid in improving and maintaining the park’s overall landscape." The association did not name the donor, per his or her wishes. The donation was made memory of Francis W. Hatch, Jr., "a noted environmentalist and humanitarian, served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in the 1960s and 1970s."
3. Share a shopping tip and you could win a $25 gift certificate to the Foundry on Elm restaurant in Somerville: Each week from now until the end of the year, we’re running a shopping tip contest – so why not help out your fellow Patch readers save some money this holiday season, while earning a shot at our weekly prize?
4. If you are a college student at a Boston-area campus you can skate from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Frog Pong for only $2. Make sure you bring a curring student ID. Equipment rentals will be available for on-site for those who do not have their own skates. WERS 88.9 FM will provide the music.
5. Showers today, mostly in the afternoon, and patches of fog in the evening. But the warm temperatures continue, with a high near 65 and a low around 43.
