Five Things to Know Today, Feb. 17

NRO Kids looking for a manager; cupcake decorating classes; the fate of Boston public schools; the important issue in the Senate race; and warm enough, but rainy.

1. In preparation for its March 2 opening, NRO kids is looking for a full-time manager to run the store. Successful applicants will have experience and be willing to work weekends. Send resumes to jobs@northriveroutfitter.com.

2. Learn how to fill, frost and finish cupcakes at a decorating class at Isabelle's Curly Cakes, at 81 Charles St., this Tuesday. The class lasts an hour and 15 minutes, includes one-on-one attention from Curly Cakes pastry chefs and costs $45. Call the store at 617-720-2260 or stop in to sign up.

3. Our columnist John Keith asks: are Boston's schools doomed to fail? Technically, the city could end busing, today. Keith takes a look at the current public school situation, the push for more students to attend neighborhood schools, and the mayor's goal to radically revamp the system.

4. What do you think the most important issue is in the U.S. Senate race? Let us know.

5. Bring your umbrella. Today calls for showers before noon, but then a gradual clearing in the afternoon with a high near 47. The evening will be mostly clear and a low around 30.
