Five Things to Know Today, Jan. 6
Robbery update, a restoration to admire and more.
1.) It was a scary couple of minutes Thursday morning when a man walked into 1 Beacon Street and robbed Sovereign Bank. By the late afternoon, Boston Police published surveillance photos of the suspect, who was last seen on foot, heading toward Park Street Station.
2.) The African Meeting House reopened last month after a six-year, $9 million restoration. You can check out pictures of the newly restored house of worship in our photo gallery.
3.) Did you know here was a labyrinth beneath the Cathedral of St. Paul on Tremont Street? If you’re looking for a different experience, you can explore the underground passage at 10 a.m. today.
4.) If you haven’t checked out the West End Museum, head over at noon today for a guided tour of its permanent exhibit. You’ll learn about the history of the neighborhood, where whole swaths of a poor but vibrant community where bulldozed as part of the Urban Renewal movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
5.) Expect a cloudy day today, with high temperatures in the mid-40’s. The unseasonably warm temperatures will continue through the weekend, though the Sun won’t return in full until Sunday.
