How Would You Use MBTA Mobile Ticketing?

The MBTA Commuter Rail’s mobile ticketing system has been a success thus far. How else should the T use the new app?

Commuter rail riders are purchasing rail tickets in droves since the Monday launch of the MBTA’s new mobile ticketing system.

As of Wednesday, the app has been downloaded 6,000 times totaling $10,000, according to a Tweet from @mbtaGM.

The MBTA mTicket system, which uses the JustRide mobile ticketing platform from Masabi US Ltd., is available only on four lines: Lowell, Fitchburg, Haverhill and Newbury/Rockport, but will be rolled out throughout the region later this month.

Perhaps the subway lines or buses will be next to get mobile ticketing. If they do, how would you use the MBTA’s mobile ticketing system? Do you want it for the subway and buses? What about The Ride? Tell us in the comments.

I want to be able to use the pass on both the commuter rail and the subway - it's a pain to use the paper Charlie Tickets on the subway (they often don't work and then I have to hunt down a T employee to let me through the gate) - and currently the only way to buy the commuter/subway pass is on paper. Why don't the T conductors have a way to read Charlie Cards so that my pass can be on a Charlie Card instead of a ticket?

I only ride the buses and the T, and I will say the "no need to even remove from your wallet" Charlie Card is already pretty convenient. But adding more money to the card from an outdoor stop with no kiosk is annoying and can be a challenge on a moving Green Line T... would be nice to add value through my phone!

It would be great to be able to do mobile ticketing for any public transportation in Massachusetts such as the commuter rails, MBTA buses and trains, or ferries - or whatever else I missed. I think at this time you should be able to re-value on your card through your phone, or just scan your phone at the entry point - and voila! The fumbling for cards, and then missing your transportation, is irritating and can be culled by modern inventions.

John, this is no place to hit on or flirt with other poster or whatever you want to call it that you're doing.
