PHOTOS: Advent School Kindergartners Thank Villa Mexico Owner
Julie King shares the Mexican holiday Dia de Los Muertos with the class each year.
In what has become an annual November tradition, kindergartners from the Advent School trekked to Villa Mexico, the restaurant at Grampy's gas station, to thank its owner for sharing Dia de Los Muertos with them.
Dozens of students came to the restaurant Tuesday to present Julie King with a thank-you poster and enjoy quesadillas and soda. The poster included photos of King's visit to the school earlier in the month, in which she built an altar to her ancestors in honor of Dia de Los Muertos, and spoke to the kids about the Mexican celebration.
The children had a special tie to the Nov. 1 holiday because the monarch butterflies they had helped raise earlier in the year arrive in Mexico around Dia de Los Muertos, which King said the Mexicans believe is the ancestors returning home.
This year marked the third time King has worked with the children at the Advent School to teach them about Dia de Los Muertos.
