The first phase in a five-year project to stabilize the edge of the Boston Public Garden Lagoon begins next week with a renovation of the a third of north shore. 

This phase, budgeted at $165,700, will address leakage issues that result in puddling on the lawn areas around the lagoon.

The work will be on the north side of the pond is the portion where the island is located and will stabilize the edge, which is comprised of granite coping on a concrete sill, turf, soil, gravel, and a clay liner.

The project will not alter the shape of the shoreline. It is expected to be completed by early April.

Additional paving and turf restoration will be included in the project, complementing pathway renovations already underway in the Public Garden.

The Parks Department will complete the stabilization ofthe entire lagoon edge coping within five years.
