Should Beacon Hill Pursue Two-Day Recycling Pickup?
A big question that had Beacon Hillers buzzing this past spring is back on the agenda for the Beacon Hill Civic Association's Green Committee.
Do Beacon Hill residents want their trash and recycling picked up twice a week? The Beacon Hill Civic Association's Green Committee wants to know.
It's a question that BHCA members talked about last spring, but never resolved. Then summer season struck, and the issue faded from the community agenda.
Now the Green Committee has resumed its monthly meetings. And at the group's September gathering on Tuesday night, the issue of Beacon Hill's refuse pick-up schedule was thrust back into the limelight.
Currently, Beacon Hill residents have their trash picked up three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings), while recycling is picked up once a week. Green Committee members are trying to gauge public interest in changing that schedule to two days of refuse pick-up, where both trash and recycling are picked up on both days.
Meeting attendees brainstormed ways to gauge public opinion on the issue; online surveys and on-the-street polling were mentioned. The goal: reach 1,000 members of the Beacon Hill community to evaluate the neighborhood's opinion on the issue.
