The Best Love Song Ever Is...

Valentine's Day is approaching, and we're compiling a list of love songs.

It's Valentine's Day, and love is in the air... on the radio, in the coffee shops and maybe on your iPod.

You know there's that one song that melts your heart every time you hear it. For me, it's "Over the Rainbow," sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I don't know what it is, but that song makes stop in my tracks whenever those first notes are played.

A colleague of mine and I came up with this list of classic love songs:

  • "Wonderful Tonight," Eric Clapton
  • "Love Song," The Cure
  • "At Last," Etta James
  • "Unchained Melody," The Righteous Brothers
  • "All I Want is You," U2

Is your favorite on our short list? If not, share it in the comments section below.

I've had "I love you like a love song, baby, and I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat" by Selena Gomez stuck in my head since this afternoon... thanks Dann for the St. Vincent link to pull me out of my misery

"If I Were A Carpenter". I'm particularly attached to the Robert Plant version (!) but I also love the Johnny & June Cash version.

@Sara, that song is a serious earworm.

Also "Storybook Love", the theme from "The Princess Bride". We danced the first dance at our wedding to that one...

I need to put a plug in for Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful", but his other hit "Up Where We Belong" gets me every time.

My personal favorite ode to the beautiful muse in a guy's life is "Classic Girl" by Jane's Addiction.
