What Did You Think of 'Boston's Finest?'

The new Boston Police reality show premiered last night on TNT. Did you watch? Did you enjoy the show?

Editor's note: We'll avoid any major plot details in this post, but we can't swear the comments will remain spoiler free. If you want to comment about specifics, please be kind and add a spoiler alert to the top line.

After weeks of hype, "Bostons Finest" finally premiered Wednesday night. The TNT reality series follows Boston Police officers as they patrol the city. The show opened to strong reviews and a litany of excited tweets from the department itself.

The first episode focused on a fugitive hunt in Southie and Dorchester, a melee in Hyde Park, and an officer's bittersweet field trip to Lynn. And while other cop-based reality shows you've heard of focus on foot chases and shirtless arrests, "Boston's Finest" took the time to introduce officers and tell their stories before getting into the nitty gritty of arrests and manhunts.

What did you think? Were you impressed by the first episode or did you find it wanting? Does the show reflect well on Boston and its police department? Tell us what you think in the comments below. And please, flag any spoilers before you begin!

I will give it two more weeks. If it doesn't get better I'm done.

I agree, however it's new I would like to see more action in the first scene instead of the female cop talking about her personal issues. the second half was better. it could be a good program.

See, the thing is police officers are actually people with "personal issues". It's not all kicking down doors and sliding across the hood of a car. Shows like this are attempting ot show the public, most of whome do not understand the idea of working in the job for the betterment of the community, just a small sliver of what it is like to be an cop.

I'm sure too many people will be bored and will want to be "entertained", so after a while the producers will make it a half scripted "reality" show with "Wars" somethere in the title.

Top notch production values. Great character development. Could be a hit.

I don't know if it's because I work with BPD a lot through my job, but I was definitely entertained and didn't change the channel during commercial breaks. I do want to know where the cop wanted to get sushi in West Roxbury! I look forward to the next episode.

I thought it was great. I liked the back story of each of the cops, then the reality of what they do on a day to day basis seemed very realistic. I'm going to keep watching!

Did not get to see the show but wanted to know what the financial arrangements are. Do the police officers get paid extra to be on the show? Is the city of Boston being compensated in any way? I am sure the show makes money for its network and producers so just wondering what the city, police department and taxpayers get from their involvement in the show .

Tuned in at 930 and the first few second heard a lot of bleeps. I think it'd be better if they moved it back to ten so they could get rid of the bleeps. (the censors take me out of it)

But I'm intrigued enough to catch it again. The scenery shots are nice to look at.

Ewwww,,,BORING. Amen. Looks like a third rate "reality" show for a local cable channel. I want to find out how Boston cops make $200,000.00 working details. Why they never live within the city limits like their contract obligates them to. How many worthless pot busts and $20 bindles do they try to turn into effective policing? How about the DA's that work with them? The public defenders, the bail bondsmen, the nepotism, the favors, the pols? Give us Boston but don't give us an idealized St. Brendan's Boys' (and Womens') Choir .

What's your deal Dr. Bill and what are you talking about??? Cops work hard and the job is very dangerous. They deserve their money, even for the details. And by the way, the residency requirement has changed, not that it's any of your business. Moving on... I thought the show was good. I expected more action but I liked it.

Wow - more negative comments than I expected. I know a lot of Boston cops and they're just like you and me - working hard to raise their families, pay their mortgages, and oh yah - keep us safe by fighting a frustrating battle against the never ending bad guys. I enjoyed the show and look forward to next week.

Watched the show and would watch it again. It's so sad to see where people end up through their own fault or no fault of their own. God bless the BPD for keeping the rest of us safe. As for all of you "negative commenters" all I can say is I feel sorry for you that you feel a need to go on and on about "your" ranting and raving. I hate to say it but nobody gives a hoot what you think or say. You just sound like raving lunatics and self-absorbed egomaniacs. Thank you for reading. LOL

I think it's an officer safety issue exploiting these officers real names, families, and personal lives. Being a cop myself, I would not want that information readily available to the public. Are these even real officers or actors??

They are the real deal, I know one of them personally and I do agree with you regarding the safety issue but it's not something they have to do.

Thank you for the feedback. If the show had as much drama as this discussionm it might survive on network television. No question, everyone in Boston should ask God to bless the BPD early and often. After lots of effort spent correcting mistakes, today our cops generally manage to resist the rampant corruption, bigotry and racism that helps draw viewer's interest to all the succcessfully cop shows. I hope the writers can take a page from our discussion. Best of luck to the NE Patch for graciously hosting this forum.

i'd like to put cameras in those cars without them knowing and see how respectful they act and i know this show is staged because when the female cop arrests the kid on a warrant from the pizza place she said she was calling the bondsman so he could get bailed if he's on gps and probation there is no bail he has to stay in custody until he sees the judge no exceptons. so im calling bullshit on this show

You have firsthand knowledge? Was the junkie a friend of yours? I'm married to a cop and I don't give a crap how they arrest people, as long as they are cleaning up the streets. Are cops supposed to be polite doing the job they do, dealing with crazy law breaking morons? I mean really. This is Boston not Mayberry.

Chuck, the narrator is Donnie Wahlberg who is most definately from Boston. He's actually from Dorchester. His is a true Boston accent. Sad when you can't recognize a true Boston accent because you get used to all the fake ones from all the supposed TV shows and movies.

Overpaid? Yeah, if he worked in Needham. It doesn't matter what you think because your opinion won't change the amount of money he earns. Ignorant slobs? Far from it. Maybe some, but not my husband. So don't generalize. That just shows ignorance and stupidity on your behalf. This is dumb, your dumb and I'm done with this conversation. I suppose I shouldn't take any of this personally because none of what you have said describes my husband or 3 brothers who are also cops (and veterans by the way).

That bigot Hicks is now dead, could not believe the things she would say to you, like "they should ship them back to africa" i was 13 at the time, wanted to tell her to get out of our store. PHILIPS CANDY HOUSE never allowed such comments, but i was only 13 so I I packed her candy, and latter told my dad. He was glad I did not make a fuss, but was going to talk to her, we as a family never bought into hate, and if she did not like it she could take her biz some where else. Dad was not happy she talked to his son like that.....

The boston police, have a hard job. BOSTON is not the city it was 40 yrs ago. I was raised to respect all people. Never had a problem with Boston Cops. my dad and brother are special police. BOSTON COPS work hard, put their life on the line, and get little thanks. Do not do the crime if u can not do the time. I was raised to help the police, we are all eyes and ears, The no snitch code, is a code of losers, bullets do not have names on them.

Matthew Your right , there is no respect for police in general. I do think that most cops are just assholes you have to take the good with the bad. I know one thing the BPD at area 1 are the best. Donnie needs to follow those guy's on a night shift down around China Town to Quincy Market those officers deal with all kinds of lunatics !

Are you serious? You insult police officers and then go on to praise them? Most cops are not "assholes". And if they are, it's from years of dealing with people who need to spend more time minding their own business.

Matthew the point being is that they are like you and me , some are good people and some are just assholes and if they stop me and they are assholes , I would never show any disrespect. It's a very hard job no one is disputing that ! it is just that most of them are Assholes. It sounds like your a police officer or ex police officer. I'm sorry for getting you all worked up.
