What Makes Your Beacon Hill Marriage Work?

Boston has a low rate of divorces, as does the state of Massachusetts as a whole. How are you making it work?

In Georgia, 11.6% of people are divorced.  In Oklahoma, it's 13.45%.  But, in the entire city of Boston, only 7.52% of residents are divorced, so say statistics from the 2010 census and this TheBostonChannel.com article.

Divorce rates in Boston are slightly higher than our neighbors in Cambridge, who came in at 7.49% and Somerville and Brookline, who tied at 6.76%.  The national average, however, hovers at 9.45%, and Massachusetts has consistently ranked among the states with the lowest divorce rates in the entire country, even going back to 1994.  The numbers vary widely among towns in Massachusetts, but Boston is #50 on the least-divorced list, and on the most-divorced list the statistics top out in Onset, where 27.48% of residents say they are divorced.

At Patch we want to hear your story behind these numbers.  What are you doing to make your marriage last?  Why do you think fewer people get divorced in Boston and in Massachusetts overall?  Let us know in the comments section!
