Following the Boston Marathon bombing last Monday in which pressure cookers were used for the explosion, the cookware giant has decided to temporarily stop selling the items in their Massachusetts stores.
Williams-Sonoma, the specialty retailer of home furnishings and gourmet cookware with over 250 stores in the United States, has pulled pressure cookers from their shelves following the Boston Marathon bombing. "It's a temporary thing out of respect," said Kent, who is the Store Manager of the Williams-Sonoma at the Natick Mall. He referred Patch to corporate for further questions. Pressure cookers will still be available on the Williams-Sonoma website. Crate & Barrel is still selling pressure cookers in their stores, according to Elizabeth who is the General Manager of the location at the Natick Mall. She noted that they hadn't sold any pressure cookers recently. Crate & Barrel will also be observing the statewide moment of silence today…
The athletic shoe company said it will also match any donations made by company employees.
The New Balance shoe and apparel company has donated $1-million to the One Fund Boston to aid the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. New Balance also announced that it will match any donations made by company employees to the One Fund Boston, according to the Boston Globe. The One Fund Boston is continually growing with individuals and company donors, including Partners HealthCare that announced it also donated $1-million to fund. One Fund Boston was established by Mayor Thomas Menino and Governor Deval Patrick as a fund to help the victims of the Marathon bombings. Employees from the local design company handed out free copies of the poster for people to hang in their homes, stores and elsewhere around the community.
Two women from Breakaway Innovation Group on Boylston Street were at the Boston Marathon victims' memorial at Boylston and Berkeley streets on Thursday afternoon handing out printed signs to show their support in the aftermath of Monday's bombing. The small posters show a Boston skyline with an overlay of a red Boston "B" and text reading "26.2gether." "We just thought it would be nice to print these out and give them to local places in support and solidarity for the whole community," said Breakaway employee Megan Brock of Somerville. ProPrint on Boylston Street donated 250 copies of the poster.

An economist talking to Business Week said the city is typically a $1-billion-a-day metropolitan area.
CHARLESTOWN, MA -- How much does it cost to shut down a city for an entire day? Bloomberg Business Week reports that price tag is somewhere in the range of $250 million to $333 million, citing a chief economist at IHS Global Insight. The citywide shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, about 10 hours after the police lockdown was extended to the entire city of Boston. As of 6:30 p.m., police continued to search for the remaining at-large suspect in Monday’s bombing at the Boston Marathon finish line, with heavy activity continuing in the greater Boston community of Watertown. The Boston First Responders Fund has been established by our city's first responders to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon attacks. "(The Boston Marathon) was a sad day for the city of Boston, our state and our nation,” said Edward Kelly, president of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, via press release. “(Patriots' Day) we cared for the victims and today we want to take care of them moving forward. To the families of the victims of (Monday's) tragedy, we can never bring your loved ones back or take away the injuries you sustained from this attack.
