Nichols House Museum Open House
Season’s Greetings! The Nichols House Museum, located on historic Beacon Hill, invites you to tour the festively decorated museum, free of charge, Friday, December 7th and December 14th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Holiday décor, inspired by Elizabeth Nichols’ love of entertaining, fills the house with turn-of-the-century cheer.
Elizabeth Nichols (1844-1929) was the mother of three daughters: Rose, Marian, and Margaret. After moving to 55 Mount Vernon Street in 1885 with her young family, she immediately began hosting parties and dinners at her new home for family and friends. Accordingly, this year’s holiday decorations at the Nichols House Museum evoke the warm reception Elizabeth would have given her friends whom she invited to luncheon. The dining room table is elegantly set, while décor throughout the rest of the home includes gingerbread cookies and antique toys, recalling the holidays shared by three young sisters in their family’s Beacon Hill home.
The Nichols House is a historic house museum that offers visitors a unique glimpse of late 19th and early 20th century domestic life on Boston’s Beacon Hill. Located at 55 Mount Vernon St., the museum is currently open for tours Thursday through Saturday, from 11:00 am to 4:00pm.
