Cape Cod Residents to Protest Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant at State House Monday

Cape Cod residents are expected to rally at the Massachusetts State House Monday to pressure Governor Patrick into work with authorities to close Plymouth’s Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant.

Rally organizers told the Boston Globe they expect about a hundred people from all 15 towns on Cape Cod to attend Monday’s assembly in an effort to push Governor Deval Patrick to pressure the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to shut down Pilgrim.

The “Wake up the Governor” rally is set for 11 a.m. at the State House and is being organized by the group Cape Downwinders. Cape Downwinders is focused on taking action to protect Cape Cod and Island residents against the threat of death or injury from the use of nuclear energy at Pilgrim and other locations, according to the group’s website.

The rally is expected to include a presentation followed by testimony from each Cape Cod community, as well as public statements from community members. The group will be recording all this information and presenting it to the governor.
