Hailo Celebrates First Year in Boston with Brookline Launch and Kickass Cupcakes Partnership

Free cupcakes to be distributed throughout Greater Boston on Wednesday

BOSTON, MASS. (Nov 11, 2013) – Hailo, the world’s highest-rated app-based taxi service, announced today that it will celebrate its first anniversary in Boston this week with free cab rides, Kickass Cupcakes, and the news that it is expanding into Brookline. There are now more than 2,000 licensed taxi drivers in Greater Boston registered with and actively using Hailo to pick up passengers through smartphone hails.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our anniversary in Boston. The community here has been extremely welcoming,” said Vanessa Kafka, general manager of Hailo Boston. “Boston was the first Hailo city in the US so the revolution to improve the way people hail cabs in the States truly started here.”

Hailo is teaming up with local pastry institution Kickass Cupcakes to distribute free Hailo-themed cupcakes from its food truck throughout Greater Boston on Wednesday. The truck will be accompanied by a Hailo-wrapped London taxi cab. Locations and times are:

“What a kickass combo, free cupcakes and cab rides,” said Sara Ross, owner of Kickass Cupcakes. “We are so excited to be a part of Hailo’s celebration.”

In addition, all users will receive two free rides (up to $15 each) Wed 11/13 and Thu 11/14, with promo codes HAILODAY1 and HAILODAY2. Hailo will also be distributing surprise gifts in randomly selected Hailo cabs. Additionally, the taxi app will honor its drivers with a “Thank You” day on Tuesday. Drivers are invited to come to the Hailo office for coffee and treats.

Hailo has three key benefits:

●      Hailo from anywhere. Passengers can relax at home or at the restaurant table, hail a cab with a tap of their smartphones and watch it come to pick them up in real time on a map.

●      Convenient and safe.  No more wandering the streets looking for a taxi– now it comes to you.  We only work with licensed taxis so passengers get the best, most consistent service and arrive at their destinations safely. A driver is confirmed with his photo, first name and cab number before they arrive to pick you up.  Pay the meter, not an arbitrary amount.

●      Automatic, effortless payment. Just get in and out of the cab. Payment information is handled securely so passengers don’t have to worry about having cash or a card on hand and there are no mandatory tips.

About Hailo
Hailo is the evolution of the hail - a free smartphone app which puts people just two taps away from a licensed taxi, and lets cabbies get more passengers when they want them. A Hailo hail is accepted around the world every four seconds from Hailo’s global network of tens of thousands of drivers and hundreds of thousands of passengers. Launched in November 2011, Hailo is available in London, New York, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Madrid, Barcelona, Washington D.C and Osaka.  Hailo has carried more than 6 million passengers and grown to annualized sales of more than $100M. Founded by three taxi drivers and three internet entrepreneurs, Hailo has raised over $50M from the best investors anywhere, including Union Square Ventures, Accel Partners, Wellington Partners, Atomico Ventures and Sir Richard Branson.
