Veterans Day – Serving Those Who've Served Our Country

In honor of Veterans Day, volunteers today served those who served their country by working on several crucial projects to better the lives of individuals receiving services and living at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV). Joining the volunteers was three-time Super Bowl Champion and New England Patriots alumnus Patrick Pass.

The effort is through a partnership between Bank of America, CBS EcoMedia and NECHV and is part of a broader support effort which includes funding for the NECHV Veteran 360 program and newly renovated program space. The Veteran 360 program provides mental health programs, including: clinical case management, a frail elder program, senior services, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) program, and addiction services. Funding from Bank of America will allow NECHV to unite all these services in a centralized location.

“We are extremely grateful to Bank of America for their support of the New England Center for Homeless Veterans,” said NECHV President and CEO C. Andrew McCawley.  “Their generous investments of time and money will help us to carry out our mission of serving Veterans in need as we work to end Veteran homelessness.”

NECHV provides accommodations for more than 350 men and women on a typical night and serves more than 1,000 veterans each year through a variety of programs. NECHV provides licensed case management for each veteran served, offers onsite training and provides assistance to veterans seeking permanent housing, financial stability, employment and medical services.

Bank of America also supported much-needed renovations to the NECHV’s third floor, including furnishings. Much of the equipment and furnishings at the Center have not been upgraded in almost two decades.

“Volunteering with Bank of America employees here today at New England Center for Homeless Veterans has been a great experience and was an excellent way to recognize Veterans Day,” said Pass. “Far too many men and women who served our nation struggle with homelessness. The Center and events like this help them get the dignity they deserve.”

As part of the partnership, approximately 30 Bank of America employee volunteers completed interior painting work, assembled and installed new furniture and put the final touches on the renovation project.

“Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in times of need for our nation. New England Center for Homeless Veterans honors those sacrifices when our veterans, in turn, find themselves in need,” said Bob Gallery, Massachusetts president, Bank of America. “These improvements will help connect these brave men and women to the services they need on their path to economic self-sufficiency.”

“It’s an honor to be here today to express how deeply grateful we are to the men and women who serve our country, particularly when they find themselves in times of need,” said Paul Polizzotto, President and Founder, CBS EcoMedia. “We thank Bank of America for its funding, volunteering efforts and commitment to improving the quality of people’s lives in the communities it serves. Now, local veterans in Boston who are facing or at-risk of homelessness will have the support and care they so deserve to live stable and secure lives.”
