Franziska Huhn & harp, June 19 at King's Chapel

Franziska Huhn, harp, returns to historic King's Chapel in downtown Boston this week for a mid-day recital featuring music written by Spohr & Mozart.

At the age of fourteen, Franziska took first prize in the prestigious Jugend Musiziert Competition in Germany and went on to receive a full scholarship to study with Lucille Lawrence and earn a Bachelor of Music degree at Boston University. Franziska continued her studies with the BSO's principal harpist Ann Hobson Pilot on a full scholarship at the New England Conservatory of Music, completing a Masters Degree in Harp performance and a Graduate Diploma, in addition to becoming the first ever harpist to be awarded the Artist's Diploma by the Conservatory in 2005. In 2007, Franziska received an Artist Diploma from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, Germany.

An active performer, Franziska participated in festivals and institutes in Germany, Japan, and at the BSO's Tanglewood since 1994.  She returned to Tanglewood to perform contemporary music as a Fromm player (2003) and has been the Assistant Director of the Harp Seminar at Boston University's Tanglewood Institute since then. Ms. Huhn is also active in and around the Boston area performing as a substitute harpist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and playing regularly with the Mistral Chamber Players, the Walden Chamber Players, the Radius Ensemble and Collage New Music.

As a solo performer, Franziska has given recitals throughout the United States, as well as international recitals in Norway, Poland, Georgia, Russia, Syria, Pakistan and Germany. A proponent of contemporary music, her solo repertoire includes works written especially for her by well-known composers such as Daniel Pinkham and Lior Navok.

Since 2007, Franziska has been on the faculty at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge and the New England Conservatory, Boston.

Hailed by residents & visitors as a treasure in the midst of a bustling city, the King's Chapel Tuesday Noonhour Recitals cover classical music, jazz and more! Your $3 suggested donation goes directly to the performers. Programs begin at 12:15 pm and last about 35 minutes. King's Chapel is wheelchair accessible.
