Dunkin' Donuts to Open in Top Shelf

The express location would offer only drinks and baked goods, no sandwiches.

Four years after Dunkin' Donuts went before the Beacon Hill Civic Association for its support to move onto the hill, it will open inside Top Shelf at 161 Charles St.

"It stirred up a hornet's nest," when it was discussed years ago, according to Tom Clemens, the current moderator of the civic association's Zoning and Licensing Committee. There was a discussion of "whether there's a class warfare issue" considering the fact that Charles Street has two Starbucks but no Dunkin' Donuts.

The new outlet will be an express store, meaning that it will sell drinks, donuts and muffins but no sandwiches. It will be tucked into the right side of Top Shelf, where the flowers now are. No opening date has been set.
