Beacon Hill Big Sister Gives Back

Samara Lampert has been paired with her little sister for one year.

Beacon Hill resident, Big Sister Samara Lampert and her Little Sister Tiana, of Dorchester, recently celebrated their one year anniversary. They enjoy a variety of fun activities including picnics in the park, bowling, and going to the circus.

Big Sister Association of Greater Boston asks mentors to make a commitment of at least 12 months, though many Big and Little Sister relationships continue for several years, and even develop into lifelong friendships. Research has shown that mentoring relationships lasting at least one year, particularly for girls, result in more positive outcomes in a girl’s social-emotional development, academic performance, and ability to make healthy decisions.

There are many essential elements for a successful match, including the volunteer’s commitment and the professional assessment, training, and support the volunteers receive from the agency’s social work staff.  Big Sister wishes to congratulate Lampert on making a difference in the life of her Little Sister as a caring, supportive friend and mentor.
