'Garlands and Greens' Holiday Gathering on Beacon Hill This Wednesday

The following was sent out by the Beacon Hill Civic Association: 

Come join the magic at the kick off to the Holiday Season when Tom Kershaw hosts Garlands and Green: A Holiday Gathering, Wednesday, November 14. The Beacon Hill Civic Association’s popular holiday party that helps raise the nearly $12,000 needed to magically transform the 1,100 lamp posts with 2,860 yards of laurel garlands and 2,400 red bows is something not to be missed. 

Ring in the holiday season at the Hampshire House, 84 Beacon Street from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 per adult or $35 at the door, and includes hors d’oeuvres and two glasses of beer, wine, or a holiday martini.

Enjoy live music by local jazz musicians Lisa Macalaster, lead vocalist of the band HoneyMac, and Brimmer Street resident and pianist Richard Pierce, as they play popular tunes and favorite holiday songs. The night also includes a drawing for a variety items from Beacon Hill businesses such as restaurant gift cards, sports tickets, clothing items, and more. 

Tom Kershaw has long been considered the founder of the tradition to dress the picturesque gas lamp poles for the holidays, first completed on Charles Street by the Beacon Hill Business Association over 25 years ago. In 1998, the idea to decorate all residential streets was born, and the Beacon Hill Civic Association joined the holiday decorating team.

It was then that Kershaw decided his gift to the community would be the annual cocktail party where he would pay for the food and drink, and donate all proceeds to help cover the costs of the decorations. This year’s Decorating Days will be held Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2.  

Alongside Kershaw’s Garlands and Green planning the committee also includes Michele Giacomozzi of the Hampshire House, BHCA representatives Joan Berndt, Keeta Gilmore, MaryLee Halpin, Samantha Goudreau, Kathryn Kuchefski and Amanda Moore.
