Author Talk: Drinking Boston: A History of the City and Its Spirits

The Ward 8 is known as the cocktail invented in Boston to honor

Martin Lomasney of the West End. That's the legend. The truth is a bit more

complicated, but no less intoxicating. Stephanie Schorow unravels the political

skulduggery and drinking habits and customs of the late 19th

Century that set the stage for the creation of this cocktail and how its

invention fits into the cultural  and political landscape of the city.
