FISHER COLLEGE HONORS VETERANS WITH 3RD ANNUAL ADOPT-A-SOLDIER PROGRAM AND 6TH ANNUAL HONOR YOUR VETERANS EVENT

Fisher College is pleased to announce that they will be honoring veterans during the month of November with their 3rd Annual Adopt-a-Soldier program and 6th Annual Honor Your Veterans event.

Fisher College’s Adopt-a-Soldier program and Honor Your Veterans event pays tribute to the veterans and active duty service members in the college community that have served their country throughout the years. This year, Fisher College has adopted two soldiers, First Lieutenant Chris Leonard of the United States Army and First Lieutenant Elizabeth Connors of the United States Army. First Lieutenant Chris Leonard is from the North Shore of Massachusetts. He currently leads a scout platoon in Northern Afghanistan. First Lieutenant Elizabeth Connors is from Belmont, Massachusetts. She is a Black Hawk pilot currently stationed at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. Fisher College will be collecting donated goods to ship to Afghanistan now through November 5.

First Lieutenant Chris Leonard and First Lieutenant Elizabeth Connors will be highlighted during Fisher’s 3rd Annual Honor Your Veterans event on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 12:30pm in the Alumni Hall at Fisher College, 118 Beacon Street, Boston. The event will begin with opening remarks from Dr. Ann Clarke, Director of Spiritual Life and Outreach Programs at Fisher College. President Dr. Thomas M. McGovern will then deliver a welcome speech and introduce CDR Matthew J. Bonner, 72nd in Command, USS Constitution as the keynote speaker. Special guests attending this year’s event include Coleman Nee, Secretary of Veterans’ Services for Commonwealth of MA and Francisco Urena, Commissioner of Veterans’ Services for the City of Boston. Fisher students will then be paired with a veteran to conduct a community service project for the Safe Haven Veteran’s Program in Dorchester. After the community service project, Fisher College will host a social gathering for students, veterans, and the Fisher College community to attend.

“The Adopt-a-Soldier program and Honor Your Veterans event are traditions that we are very proud of here at Fisher College,” states Dr. Thomas M. McGovern, President of Fisher College. “Our veterans have worked hard and sacrificed so much to protect our country. They should be continuously honored for their incredible bravery and dedication to our nation’s people.”

About Fisher’s Adopt-a-Soldier Program

Fisher created their Adopt-a-Soldier program, independent of the traditional Adopt-a-Soldier affiliation, in 2009. All of the soldiers who benefit from the program have a personal connection to the College, i.e. a former student, family friend, etc. The Adopt-a-Soldier program began through a suggestion of Mike Wall, former Admissions Counselor, who is currently serving in the National Guard.
