Film Premiere: POWER TO THE PEDALS: Wenzday Jane and the Culture of Change

The Boston premiere of the local documentary “Power to the Pedals:
Wenzday Jane and the Culture of Change” takes place Friday, April 25,
2014 at the BSA Space (Boston Society of Architects), 290 Congress
Street, Boston. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the film begins at 7. Tickets
are $ 10, $5 for BSA members. Reservations are required via the BSA
website.

The 30-minute documentary tells the inspiring story of
local of entrepreneur Wenzday Jane, the driving force behind
Somerville’s innovative cargo-bike business, Metro Pedal Power.

Shot
in an intimate, lyrical style, the film follows Wenzday as she builds
an organization of souped-up cargo bicycles for local hauling. She’s a
self- taught manager with grease on her hands. In her cave-like basement
workshop, she power-lifts an axle onto a stand and removes the
planetary gears. “Working on bikes gives me a platform for really
thinking about how things work,” she says.

The screening will be
followed by a panel discussion with some of the region’s foremost
thought leaders. These include Jackie Douglas, Executive Director of
Livable Streets; Benjamin Linder, Associate Professor of Design and
Mechanical Engineering at Olin College; Wenzday Jane, President of Metro
Pedal Power; and “Power to the Pedals” director Bob Nesson. The panel
will be moderated by John Siemiatkoski, Chair of the Board, the League
of American Bicyclists.
