Free Public Forum on Hearing and Hearing Loss

Free Seminar on Hearing and Hearing Loss at Mass. Eye and Ear

Don’t miss Mass. Eye and Ear’s 13th annual Free Public Forum on Hearing and Hearing Loss on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., presented by the hospital’s Department of Audiology. Talks at this year’s event will focus on different approaches to improving hearing function. Some forms of hearing loss can be corrected with surgery. Dr. Alicia Quesnel, an expert surgeon in the hospital’s otology and neurotology service, will provide an update on this treatment option.  Sometimes, the treatment of choice for hearing loss is hearing aid amplification. Who benefits from hearing aids? Dr. Meaghan Reed will provide information to help answer this question. In addition to treatments focused on ears, brain plasticity may provide an additional treatment avenue. Dr. Daniel Polley will present exciting research that aims to harness the brain’s ability to change itself to improve hearing function in individuals with hearing loss.  Don’t forget to check out the “Technology Table” to learn more about wireless access to various audio devices and other ways to extend the benefit of such devices. After the program, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with speakers to ask questions.
