New England Revolution Announce 2014 Charitable Drive Series

The New England Revolution will once again collect supplies for area charities and non-profit organizations this year, beginning on June 8. This season, the third year of the formal Charitable Drive Series, the Revolution has expanded to five dates:

• Sunday, June 8 vs. New York Red Bulls: Pet supplies to benefit MSPCA-Angell Animal Medical Center
• Saturday, June 28 vs. Philadelphia Union: Soccer equipment to benefit Project GOAL• Saturday, August 23 vs. Chivas USA: School supplies to support Cradles to Crayons
• Saturday, Sept. 13 vs. Montreal Impact: Military “comforts of home” items to benefit the USO
• Saturday, Oct. 4 vs. Columbus Crew: non-perishable food items to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank

Fans who make a donation to the charitable drives on the dates above will receive an autographed Revolution player card.
At each collection, donations will be accepted two hours before kickoff through the first 15 minutes of the match.

The June 8 pet supply collection will benefit the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center. The MSPCA-Angell is the second-oldest humane society in the U.S., and is a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine. The center provides care for thousands of animals each year, including medical treatment. Blankets, towels, sheets, canned food, treats and durable toys are always needed, and a complete list of items needed for various types of animals is available at the MSPCA-Angell website.

The soccer equipment drive on June 28 will include new or gently-used soccer equipment that will be donated to Project GOAL, a Rhode Island-based program that facilitates the development of the area’s disadvantaged youth through after-school tutoring and soccer-related programs. Soccer balls, cleats, shin guards, water bottles, pinnies and cones are all needed to support Project GOAL’s programming.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Revolution will collect school supplies to support Boston’s Cradles to Crayons, which provides children up to the age of 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive. Notebooks, pencils, pens, binders and other school supplies will be collected for area children in need.

Fans can donate items that provide military members the “comforts of home,” donating New England-based items to remind them of their home region in conjunction with the USO New England on Sept. 13. Items and gift cards from local coffee shops, beverages and snacks from regional companies can help cheer up service men and women. USO New England, with its headquarters in Boston, continues an old New England tradition: offering a warm and friendly hand to those in uniform. The spirit is lively and continues to flourish. The task is performed with enthusiasm and Yankee know-how. The result is the ongoing success of the familiar USO slogan, "A touch of home." USO responds to our service people whether their needs be recreation, information, family aid, or friendly guidance.
Non-perishable food items that will benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) will be collected at the final charitable drive on Oct. 4. The Greater Boston Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Last year, the GBFB distributed 48 million pounds of food, enough to provide healthy meals to as many as 545,000 people.
