Funeral to be Held Thursday for Boston Police Officer

Officer Dennis Simmonds will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain.

The funeral services for a Boston Police officer who died last week will be held this Thursday. 

Boston Police Officer Dennis Simmonds, 28, passed away last week after he collapsed while working out during in-service training at the Boston Police Academy when he endured a medical emergency, according to MyFoxBoston

The funeral for Simmonds will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 518 No. Main St., Randolph, according to his obituary. A wake will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St., (Rte. 28) in Randolph. Simmonds is set to be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain.

Simmonds served with the department for six years, having been appointed in 2008 and assigned to Boston District B-3. In 2012, he became a member of the Youth Violence Strike Force. He was honored last year for his efforts in coordination with the Watertown shootout involving the Tsarnaev brothers, and was also slated to receive a National Association of Police Organization Top Cop Award from President Obama on May 12, according to his obituary.
