Boston's 2013 Mayoral Race Considered Most Expensive in State History

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh spent more than $3 million in the race, which broke the record of what was spent by former Mayor Thomas Menino.

Before he was chosen by voters to lead the city last fall, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh took part in what was considered to be one of the most expensive mayoral races in the state's history, CBS Boston reported this week

The reported total for expenditures by Walsh and opponent John Connolly was more than $6 million in 2013. As part of that, Walsh reported spending more than $3 million, a jump over the $2.7 million former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino spent in 2009, according to the report.

The most recent mayoral race beats out the 2009 race between Menino and challenger Michael Flaherty, which resulted in $4.1 million expenditures, according to CBS Boston.
