Livingstone Endorses Connolly in Mayor's Race

Representative-elect for Beacon Hill throws his support behind West Roxbury city councilor running for mayor.

Jay Livingstone, a Beacon Hill resident recently elected to represent the 8th Suffolk House of Representatives district, announced his endorsement of Boston City Councilor John R. Connolly in the 2013 mayor's race Friday.

"I am supporting John Connolly because he is a bold leader who will transform our schools and take steps to help families stay in our downtown neighborhoods," Livingstone said in a statement. "As mayor, John Connolly will be a progressive voice for Boston's future."

Connolly welcomed the endorsement in the statement, adding that "whether it is improving our schools or working to make government more open and inclusive, Jay and I have a history of working together on issues that impact Back Bay, Beacon Hill, West End, and Fenway.”

Connolly, a West Roxbury resident, is one of 12 candidates who will appear on the preliminary election ballot Sept. 24. They are vying to replace Mayor Thomas Menino, who has served for 20 years.
