Minimum Wage Hike Approval Expected

Massachusetts residents will soon find out if those making minimum wage will receive a pay bump, courtesy of the State House.

The House of Representatives is taking up Senate Bill 2195 today, legislation that would raise the state’s minimum wage from $8 to $11 in 2017, according to the Associated Press.

“When people work 30, 40 hours a week and they’re making $8 an hour, that’s not making it in Massachusetts,” Senate President Therese Murray told The Boston Globe.

The AP reports the bill is expected to pass and earn Governor Deval Patrick’s signature.

Political action group “Raise Up Massachusetts” is currently petitioning residents to raise the minimum wage. Calls to the group were not returned as of this afternoon.
