Minimum Wage, Sick Time Statehouse Rally Wednesday

Raise Up Massachusetts is holding the rally from 3 to 5 p.m.

A Massachusetts coalition advocating for a higher minimum wage and other workers benefits is planning a rally at the State House on Beacon Hill Wednesday.

According to a statement, the coalition called Raise Up Massachusetts will be holding the rally from 3 to 5 p.m.

The purpose of the rally is meant to address two main issues, specifically the raising of the statewide minimum wage and to provide all workers in the state with earned sick time.

Those participating will include "hundreds of workers, parents, economists, health care professionals and supporters," according to Raise Up Massachusetts.

The coalition will be rallying "in support of bringing these two important measures to the November 2014 ballot."

Minimum wage in Massachusetts is $8 an hour and advocates have been trying to introduce a gradual increase during the most recent legislative session.

The Senate version of the bill sponsored by Democrat Marc Pacheco of Taunton and would increase the minimum wage to $11 an hour by 2015, followed by an increase based on inflation with the Comsumer Price Index starting in 2016.
