New Traffic Lights Near Public Garden Working

Constituent concerns led to the creation of the new stoplight at the Marlborough/Arlington intersection.

Last month, we told you about the new traffic lights put up along the Boston Public Garden at the intersection of Marlborough Street and Arlington Street, in the area that separates the Back Bay from Beacon Hill.

As of earlier this week, the lights were up, operational and working.

There is additional signage along Arlington Street, including the yellow sign you see above that says "SLOW" in advance of the traffic lights.

Boston Transportation Department Deputy Commissioner Jim Gillooly had told Patch he expected the lights to become fully operational by the middle of July, so the lights are operating on schedule..

Gillooly said the addition of the stoplights was largely a safety measure.

"We got a few requests from concerned constituents who found it difficult to cross at that location," he said.
