Patrick Administration Holding Longfellow Groundbreaking Wednesday

Ceremonial groundbreaking to take place at Lederman Park at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the Longfellow Bridge rehabilitation project will be held Wednesday morning by Gov. Deval Patrick's administration and many state and local officials.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the groundbreaking will be held at 11 a.m. at Lederman Park on the Charles River Reservation at the overlook on the multi-use path on the downstream side of the bridge near Ebserol Field.

The following officials are expected to attend: MassDOT Secretary and CEO Richard A. Davey, Highway Administrator Frank DePaola, Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Joanne Goldstein, Congressman Michael Capuano, Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Jack Murray, Representative Jay Livingstone, Boston Transportation Department Commissioner Thomas Tinlin, Boston City Council President Stephen Murphy, Cambridge City Councilor Minka vanBeuzekom and others.

A spokesman said Patrick will not be attending the ceremony.

MassDOT calls the $255.5 million Longfellow Bridge rehabilitation work a "signature project" of Patrick's Accelerated Bridge Program.

The project is expected to last three-and-a-half years. Traffic from Boston to Cambridge has been detoured away from the bridge while traffic in the opposite direction has been reduced to one lane on the bridge.
