Upcoming Red Line Diversion Cancelled Again

The next planned diversion for service as the Longfellow Bridge work continues is now Oct. 26-27.

The state has once again cancelled a planned weekend diversion of MBTA Red Line service as part of the Longfellow Bridge rehabilitation project.

Buses were supposed to replace trains between Kendall/MIT station in Cambridge and Park Street station downtown the weekend of Sept. 14-15, but according to a tweet from MassDOT, that is no longer the case.

In the tweet, MassDOT said the next planned diversion will be the weekend of Oct. 26-27. A link on the MassDOT website lists that weekend and the weekends of Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 23-24 as all the upcoming Red Line diversions for this year.

The cancelled diversion for this month was rescheduled from a planned one in August.

The diversion would have impacted service at the Charles/MGH station near Beacon Hill.

The postponed diversion is necessitated by the ongoing $255.5 million Longfellow Bridge rehabilitation project. The first of the planned diversions took place earlier in August.
