What's Open, What's Closed on Labor Day in Boston?

A quick guide to what's happening in the city Monday.

Need a cup of coffee, a quick meal or a last-minute gift this weekend, but don’t know what’s open? Here’s information on the city of Boston for Labor Day - Monday, Sep. 2.

  • Municipal Offices: CLOSED (including City Hall, libraries, community centers and indoor pools)
  • Parking & Driving: Meters are FREE. Other parking rules remain in effect. The Transportation Department has issued a Traffic & Parking Advisory related to Student Move-In for Allston-Brighton, Fenway and Mission Hill neighborhoods. 
  • Trash & Recycling Collection: ONE Day late for remainder of week (except Boston Proper, Roxbury, Charlestown and South Boston)
  • Tow Lot: Open Monday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Street Sweeping: No Monday daytime cleaning (overnight midnight - 7 a.m. arterials expected).
  • MBTA: Operating on a Sunday schedule. See www.mbta.com for details.
