Thompson Square Inflatables: 'Tacky' or 'Thoughtful'?

Is the Thompson square inflatables tacky or thoughful? Please vote and give your opinion.

If you walk through Thompson Square during this holiday season you will find a "festive atmosphere" of Christmas themed inflatable's, tree's brightly lit with red and green lights shining on them from the ground and a beautiful Christmas tree.

The Christmas tree is courtesy of Mayor Menino and the city of Boston. But, the inflatables however were not. They were put there by a private member of our community, who wanted to make a positive impact on families by giving them a place to spend time together. He not only donated his time and money to purchase and construct this display but also led a team of volunteers to hang the wreaths and bows throughout the town. In my personal opinion he is an asset to our community and our children.

So, that's the story of how Thompson Square became so festive. I'm writing this piece because a small group of people are complaining about this display and even calling it "offensive". Not because it excludes any other tradition but because in years past the character's "backsides" were facing the street. Other complaints say "the extension cords are dangerous". To accommodate concerns the display operator quickly changed it's power source to a much safer option.

The display has been a gathering point for many families and even used as a backdrop for a number of Christmas cards.

I would like your opinion on this as those who have complained also say this is "dividing the community". So, please comment and vote whether you find this "tacky or "thoughtful."

This display is now being run by gas powered generator so all donations are welcomed. To donate please contact j1713m@gmail.com.

Workingman, if you run out of gas maybe you can get Owen to help inflate...he is full of hot air!

Right on. However, you will be attacked or daring to speak up. Just look at "Joe Dingleberry's" (real classy, huh?) extremely insulting comments directed toward me. Sad.

It's great, end. of. story. How did this question turn into a townie/toonie discussion? Did Becca say all toonies complained? Your assuming a lot, get over yourselves.

"These people are NOT Townies, as I know them." "to hell with the toonies[yuppies]." "you should go back to your trendy little coffee shops with your Tooney friends" I hope that answers your question.
