Dawson, Livingstone Pick Up Key Endorsements

Livingstone touts support of Walz, Demakis; Dawson wins support of Cambridge City Councilor Leland Cheung.

  The campaigns for Democrats Joshua Dawson and Jay Livingstone have each been touting several endorsements as the May 28 primary for the open 8th Suffolk County House of Representatives seat draws near. Most recently, Livingstone, a lawyer who lives on Beacon Hill, picked up the endorsements for the two most immediate past 8th Suffolk representatives, Democrats Marty Walz and Paul Demakis. The seat is vacant because Walz resigned to become the new Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts president CEO. One Fund Boston Claim Forms Available Until June 15

Payments to victims will be made starting June 30.

Victims of the Boston Marathon bombings can file claims starting today through June 15, to possibly receive One Fund Boston assistance. Funds will start being distributed by June 30. One Fund Boston administrator Kenneth Feinberg released the final distribution protocol on Wednesday, which outlines how initial funds raised will be handed out, according to a City of Boston press statement.  The protocol for claims and claim forms are available at One Fund Boston's website. Claim forms are also being mailed to potential claimants who registered through One Fund's website.  “The outpouring of support for The One Fund has been unprecedented in my experience,” said Feinberg via statement. “We remain committed to channeling that generosity to …

MBTA to Launch New T-Alerts Service in June

The new system will provide more detailed service alert information via text and email.

The MBTA is rolling out an entirely new alerts system next month which includes changes from the details provided in alert messages to a visual website enhancement.  Through the new system, which goes into effect June 4, users can opt to receive email or text alerts for a late bus or train or a service interruption, much like the old system. However, the new alerts “will be clearer and more detailed with additional information regarding specific trip times, service schedule changes, and distinct directional, branch, and station communications,” according to an MBTA press statement Thursday. Marriage Equality Anniversary Celebrated at Public Garden

Friday marks the 9th anniversary of the law that allowed gay and lesbian couples to marry in Massachusetts.

  Dozens of local gay and lesbian couples gathered at the Boston Public Garden Thursday to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the law that gave them the right to marry in Massachusetts. The celebration, put on in partnership between Gay & Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), the Respect for Marriage Coalition and Mayor Thomas Menino, ended with a group photo at a location popular for wedding photography. "It's been an extraordinary five years," said Ellen Wade of Newton, who along with her wife, Maureen Brodoff, were one of the plaintiffs in the landmark case they won in 2003 that led to the adoption of marriage equality in the state. Crowds Swarm Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill Tour

Annual tour showcases the hill's finest gardens.

Dozens of garden enthusiasts turnout out Thursday for the 84th Annual Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill Tour from the Beacon Hill Garden Club. Twelve gardens from garden club members were selected for the tour, as well as four "ribbon" gardens in the neighborhood from non-club members. Long lines wrapped around several streets where onlookers hoped to grab a glimpse of the fine neighborhood gardens. Bombing Suspect Left Note in Boat, Claims Bombings Were Retribution for Afghanistan, Iraq

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev wrote a note on the boat in Watertown where police found him hiding.

Boston Marathon Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev left a goodbye note claiming that the bombings were retribution for the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and said he and his brother were martyrs. Tsarnaev scrawled the note on the inside of the boat where police found and arrested him, according to a report on CBS News Thursday morning.  According the CBS report, the note stated: Bullets pierced the wall of the boat where the note was found. The shots were fired after a police officer covering the side of the boat spotted Tsarnaev come up out of the tarp and thought he had a bomb, according to the report. The note may help prosecutors' case against Tsarnaev. While he admitted to being behind the bombings, the statements were made before …
