Emma Needs a New Home

Emma lived with a dog in her foster home and could potentially be a good match with a calm, quiet dog.

Meet Emma, a super sweet and lovable 1-year-old female. Emma was found as a stray with seven kittens desperate for a home. One of the wonderful staff members here took her and her kittens into her home for foster care until the kittens were old enough for adoption. They have all since been adopted, but Emma is still patiently waiting for her new home. She is very affectionate and loves to be petted and scratched all over. PHOTOS: David Ortiz Visits the Animal Rescue League

The Red Sox designated hitter played with shelter pups while munching on Popchips during an appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Apparently, puppies love popchips…and designated hitters with a penchant for bedazzled jeans. The winning combination was put to the test on Tuesday afternoon when Red Sox slugger David Ortiz paid a visit to the Animal Rescue League as part of a contest promoting the all-natural potato chip brand. Ortiz posed for photos with adoring ARL staff before heading to the dog run for playtime with some of the shelter’s canine residents. A dog-lover himself, Ortiz is the proud father of a three-year old terrier named Foxy.  “That’s my girl, she won’t go to sleep unless I’m asleep,” he said. “Having a dog around…it’s like having another child.” Ortiz fielded questions from reporters about his free agency ("who doesn't [want to play with the Sox]?") …

Bella, a Yellow Lab, Needs a Home

Bella is 5 years-old and available for adoption from the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Meet Bella, a 5-year-old yellow lab. She loves to fetch and thinks that tennis balls are the best thing ever. Bella could play fetch all day long and even sometimes plays fetch with herself. She gets a bit anxious here at the shelter, but settles down for a snooze in a quiet environment outside of the kennel as long as her human companions are around. Bella knows her basic commands and is already very well house-trained. Occasionally she doesn’t like to share her food, so she would be best in a home with ages teen and up. Although Bella enjoys meeting other dogs, she does not enjoy when they jump on her so would be best as either the only dog or with another mellow dog who doesn’t bother her.

Dani is Looking for a New Home

She's available for adoption now at the Animal Rescue League.

Meet Dani, a low key and gentle 3-year-old spayed female. Dani was brought to Animal Rescue League in Boston as a stray and is looking for her new home. She is a quiet and lovely little cat who is just waiting to give her whole heart to the right person. Dani loves chin scratches and petting. Once she gets to know you a bit more she likes cuddling too. She is fairly shy so the noisy and hectic nature of the shelter sometimes makes her nervous. She really is very sweet and would love to find her forever home.

Jackson Prefers Star Treatment

Eight-year-old cat loves to be brushed.

Meet Jackson, a handsome and playful 8-year-old male cat. He found himself at ARL when his owner was moving and could not bring him along. Luckily he has made many friends here at the shelter. Jackson is a loving boy who enjoys being held and sitting on laps. He’s very accustomed to star treatment and loves to be brushed and pet. Jackson plays very enthusiastically and is sometimes known to get a bit rough so would do best in a home without young children. Because he expects to be treated like a king he would prefer to go to a home where he is the only pet. If you’re looking for a big sweet loving man, look no further!

Sharyn's the Paw-fect Walking Pal

This mellow girl likes long walks and naps.

This is Sharyn, a 6-year-old dog who is very relaxed but also loves her playtime.  There's nothing she loves more than hanging out in a room full of her favorite toys so she has her pick. She is super snuggly with her favorite people here at the shelter and loves to go for walks with them. After a good walk she wants nothing more than to climb onto her favorite red chair and curl up for a nap. She's a friendly, fun loving girl but she does sometimes get cautious around new people. If folks approach her with a happy voice then she warms up easily.  During her stay here at the shelter she has made a few canine friends that she has played with, but she is a bit picky of her playmate choice and doesn't tend to enjoy being around a lot of dogs …

Bookend Your Home with a Pair of Kitties

Jonny Rocket and Kylie are a bonded pair, and would be a welcome addition in any home.

Nothing is better than adopting a new cat, except adopting two new cats. Shown here are 3-year-old Jonny Rocket and 1-year-old Kylie who are what we like to call a perfect pair! These two cats are best friends and compliment each other very well. The white and black female Kylie tends to be more outgoing, while Jonny Rocket, the gray tabby, is a bit more shy and introverted. Kylie helps Jonny Rocket feel more courageous and brave and will help him come out of his shell for snuggles. Both kitties love affection from humans as well as from each other.
