President Visiting MGH, First Lady to Children's

Following today's interfaith service in the South End, President Barack Obama will visit bombing victims at Massachusetts General Hospital and First Lady Michelle Obama will visit Children's Hospital.

Editor's note: This article was updated on Thursday at 2:01 p.m. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday afternoon are visiting victims of the Boston Marathon terror bombings at the city's hospitals, according to WCVB. President Obama will visit Massachusetts General Hospital and Mrs. Obama will visit Children's Hospital, WCVB reports. WHDH reporter Victoria Warren reported that Mrs. Obama was spotted driving past Brigham and Women's Hospital. The city's @NotifyBoston Twitter account tweeted, "TRAFFIC: Heavy on local streets in Longwood Medical Area. Avoid area or seek alt routes." The president and First Lady were at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End Thursday morning for an interfaith service …

PHOTOS: MGH Museum of Medical Innovation Opens Today

Massachusetts General Hospital's Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation, located at 2 North Grove St. in Boston, opened to the public today.   The Russel Museum serves as a gateway into the MGH's history and medical accomplishments. Construction cost around $7.8 million and was raised philanthropically, Museum Director Peter K. Johnson said. The museum will be open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mass Gen Doc Links Belly Fat to Osteoporosis in Women

Dr. Miriam Bredella, a radiologist at Mass General, presented findings that reversed earlier ideas about risk factors for osteoporosis.

Many physicians have believed for years that obese women had a lower risk of developing osteoporosis, the Radiological Society of North America said in a press release earlier this week. But a study authored by a radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital has called that long-held belief into question. Dr. Miriam Bredella's study found that having too much internal abdominal fat may have a damaging effect on bones. "We know that obesity is a major public health problem," said Bredella. "Now we know that abdominal obesity needs to be included as a risk factor for osteoporosis and bone loss." Dr. Bredella, who is also an assistant professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School, and her colleagues set out to evaluate all …

Mass General Theft Scheme Suspect Reaches Plea Deal

Court documents say employee implicated in medical supplies theft scheme has struck a deal with prosecutors.

A former Massachusetts General Hospital Employee who was allegedly part of a medical supplies theft scheme has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors, according to court documents. Federal investigators say Nelson Banol, 34, was one of several employees who took medical equipment by the box full from the hospital while he worked in its material management department and gave them to co-worker Alfredo Galavis, of East Boston. Galavis shipped the supplies via UPS to Miami, which were then sent to Colombia, according to a federal affidavit. Banol was arrested in August and charged with theft in connection to health care. On Wednesday, documents were filed in U.S. district court indicating a plea had been reached between Banol and …

A Toothsome Tour of Beacon Hill: Panificio Bistro and Bakery

Part three in our series exploring three Beacon Hill cafes that specialize in sweetness.

Towards the end of Charles St., you'll find the café that's been there the longer than any of the others. Sixteen years may not seem like much, but for retail businesses in Boston's competitive market, it's like dog years. Inspired by his post-collegiate tour of Europe, owner Chris Spagnuolo has created Panificio Bistro & Bakery, a place vaguely reminiscent of an English pub with its deep wood décor but with a menu that bears the mark of Italian and German influences.
