VIDEO: Somerville Couple Exchanges Vows During Occupy Rally

Also, no raid on Occupy Boston site —for now. Police tell protesters they have at least another night in Dewey Park, despite violating a trespassing notice issued Thursday.

Thursday night, as members of the Occupy Boston movement braced for a potential confrontation with police in Boston's Dewey Square – a confrontation that didn't occur, it turns out – protesters had an unusual reason to celebrate. Two members of the crowd, Aaron Spagnolo, 33, and Nanore Barsoumian, 28, decided to hold an impromptu vow exchange with one of the chaplains of Occupy Boston. The couple, from Somerville, had been engaged for a year. “You know, we kept taking about it, every time there's a protest or something like this – 'why don't we just get married in the middle of it?'” Spagnolo joked. “...Well, the chaplain is here, and I said, 'what the heck, let's just do it.'” “(We) will never forget,” Spagnolo later tweeted. “I couldn't …

PHOTOS: Senior March Against Government 'Gobbling Up' Social Security, Medicare

Dozens of senior citizens donned turkey outfits and marched to Sen. John Kerry's and Sen. Scott Brown's offices to urge them not to cut programs the elderly depend on.

In response to Congress' failure to reach a deal on how to balance the budget, about 50 senior citizens dressed as turkeys rallied outside of Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Scott Brown's offices Tuesday afternoon. The seniors met with the senators' staff to tell them not to 'gobble up' social security, Medicare and Medicaid in their attempts to solve the country's debt crisis.  "I think folks understand that the threat to these programs is really strong," said Carolyn Villers, an activist with Mass Senior Action Council, which organized the protest along with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare. A simultaneous rally was held at Kerry's office in Springfield.  "Without Medicaid, Medicare, I wouldn't have any hope," Mary …

Entitlement is a misnomer for some government programs. Social Security and Medicare are true entitlements, because people paid into them for years, and are now truly ENTITLED to the benefits. It would be nice if people stopped using the word "entitlement" as if it was a dirty word, a derogatory term. Thirty years ago they started using the word "liberal" as if it was a dirty word, and over time…   more ›

Recent Protests Against 'Corporate Greed': What’s Happening Here?

Do you support the protest marches on Beacon Hill and on Wall Street?

What happened on Beacon Hill nearly two weeks ago didn't happen in a vacuum. The protest march where trash collected at a foreclosed home in Malden was dumped on the Beacon Hill doorstep of Bank of America president Robert Gallery is directly related to the zombie march on Wall Street this morning. Protesting “Wall Street greed,” a group called “Occupy Wall Street” dressed like zombies this morning to greet Wall Street workers in New York. This happened in the wake of about 700 people in the “Occupy Wall Street” movement being arrested over the weekend on the Brooklyn Bridge. And 24 Boston residents were also arrested in a similar march in downtown Boston on Friday. So what’s happening here? Is this the start of a new movement to regulate …

Traffic Advisory: Protest and March To Create Delays Downtown

Find out the parade route of the "Occupy Boston" protest so you can join it or avoid it.

The following is a press release from the mayor's office. It's about the "Occupy Boston" protests against white-collar hooliganism and inequality. "Today, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston Transportation Department are advising drivers to plan for delays in traffic downtown and around the Financial District due to a protest march that is expected to take place this afternoon and through the weekend.
