This year, several neighborhood's street sweeping days will align with trash and recycling days.
Street sweeping in Boston is back Bostonwide starting today. This year, many Boston neighborhoods will see a different daily schedule to better align with trash and recycling days, a pilot program that started in the South End last year. Street sweeping in the South End, North End and Beacon Hill officially began March 1, although winter weather kept the program from starting until the end of the month. “Keeping Boston’s neighborhoods clean is a top priority of mine, as well as our residents,” Mayor Menino said. “These schedule changes will allow us to clean streets in a way that improves our operations and maximizes the benefits of sweeping. Beacon Hill street sweeping will start as early as March 11.
The city has expanded its street sweeping program on Beacon Hill into March and December. Scheduled to begin March 1, this year's start was postponed to March 11. Sweeping to start March 1, weather permitting.
Beacon Hill will get two additional months of street sweeping this year, starting March 1. "This expansion will provide cleaner streets for Beacon Hill residents and help reduce rodent food sources," the Beacon Hill Civic Association said in a press release, indicating that additional sweeping has been successful at curbing these problems in the North End and South End. Indeed, the civic association was instrumental in lobbying the city to expand the sweeping program on Beacon Hill. The Public …

The new program takes effect March 1.
After much lobbying by Beacon Hill residents the city has agreed to extend street sweeping into December and March, starting next spring, to help keep the Hill cleaner and reduce rodent food sources. The Beacon Hill Civic Associations has been instrumental in getting the city to expand its cleaning program and will host a meeting on Monday, Oct. 15, to let neighbors know all the details. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at 74 Joy St. Currently, street sweeping ends on Nov. 30 and begins on April 1. But in 2013 it will start on March 1 and not end until Dec. 30, meaning that applicable parking restrictions will be in place all year except for January and February. The civic association will work with the city to inform Beacon Hill …

We agree! Punish the offenders in every neighborhood in the city and we would have less trash and a more beautiful city to live in. Ticketing people who litter would help as well. Disrespecting our city is not acceptable!   more ›
