The man suspected in a shooting at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary Wednesday remains hospitalized and will not face arraignment Thursday, according to city officials.
Raymond Wallace, 36, of North Billerica, while in the custody of two Middlesex County deputy sheriffs, allegedly tried to take possession of one of the deputy's service weapons while detained on Essex County offenses Wednesday, according to a statement from Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley's office.
That deputy sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound and his partner is believed to have "discharged his own weapon, striking Wallace," according to the statement.
Wallace is accused of robbing PetSmart in Salem while donning a mask and the now-closed Borders Books in Peabody, according to Salem Patch.
The Wednesday incident remains under investigation.
