Longfellow Bridge Info Meeting July 10

Bridge rehabilitation project to start Monday.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is holding a public information meeting on the Longfellow Bridge rehab project in Cambridge July 10.

According to a state press release, the meeting will take place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 45 Carleton St., Building E 25, Room 111 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The meeting is for showing details to the public on Phase 1 of the project and the Traffic Stage 1 shift to be implemented July 1.

According to the state, the west side of the bridge will be closed for construction and shift traffic heading into Boston to the east side. Traffic bound for Cambridge will be detoured using a signed route from Charles Circle to Land Boulevard using Leverett Circle and Monsignor O'Brien Highway.

Throughout construction, MassDOT said pedestrian and bicycle access as well as MBTA Red Line service will be maintained.

Officials will take questions and comment from the public at the July 10 meeting.

MassDOT said the project "will address the bridge's current structural deficiencies, upgrade its structural capacity and bring it up to modern code, including improved multimodal access and bridge-to-city-street connections to meet accessibility guidelines."

For construction related questions, complaints or issues, contact the project hotline, 617-519-9892, or e-mail longfellowbridge@state.ma.us.
